Central Avenue - the Main Street in Old Marshfield |
In 1874 Marshfield, Oregon was incorporated. Because of a major fire on Front Street in 1922, City Hall was moved to Central Avenue. Central Avenue from the Waterfront to 4th street and the two blocks on either side of Central Ave. became the New Marshfield.
Seventy years later, in 1944, Marshfield was renamed the City of Coos Bay. This was the true beginning of Old Marshfield in downtown Coos Bay. |

Central Ave. is one of Coos Bay's oldest streets.
It was built as a wooden road (a corduroy road). |
These are some of the successful Old Marshfield stores
from the past that did business
on Central Ave. and the neighboring streets.
